AC Milan defender set for January exit

After playing in only 19 matches in a year-and-a-half for AC Milan, it appears that Gustavo Gomez’s time with the club will come to an end in January. Since joining the Rossoneri in the summer of 2016, the centerback never found solid footing under Vincenzo Montella.

With the arrival of Leonardo Bonucci, and solid play of Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacacchio, there simply isn’t room for him in the manager’s plans. In 13 Serie A matches he’s only made the squad five times, playing in no matches. He’s yet to make the squad for any Europa League clash.

After arriving from Argentinian club CD Lanus for €8.5 million, it’s in the best interest of player and team to separate. Possible destinations for him include his native Paraguay, for which he continues to be a national team player, and Turkey.

One possible scenario may see him follow his former Argentine teammate Miguel Almiron to North America and MLS.
