Allegri’s darkest night, how many mistakes!
Benching Pjanic was probably the most illogical choice from yesterday night. The AS Roma playmaker is the man who can really make the difference in the Old Lady’s midfield. He can combine class and physical strength and he proved that when he came on to replace a weak Asamoah.
Alex Sandro should have also start the game or, at least, replace his (more defensive) counterpart Patrice Evra at the end of the first half. Allegri got the starting line up wrong and took too much to change it. He gifted 23 more minutes to Sevilla in the second half and when Juventus started building consistent attacking actions it was probably too late.
One more thing I didn’t like was lack of bravery when it came to deploy Marko Pjaca. Why didn’t he use the Croat starlet earlier? Why didn’t he played him in place of Mario Lemina whose presence on the pitch in the last 5-10 minutes was not essential at all?
Allegri could have swapped Juve to a 3-4-2-1 system or even 3-4-1-2 with Dybala behind Mandzukic and Higuain. Unfortunately for Juventus fans he didn’t. Yesterday night we saw an unusual version of Allegri. He was not brave enough to use a more offensive system or make substitutions earlier than what he actually did. Yesterday was Allegri’s darkest night of the season so far, but nothing’s lost, there is still time to recover lost ground.
