Barcelona look to ward off Man Utd by renegotiating star defender's contract
With a salary of €3 million, and a release clause of €60 million, Umtiti secures his place as one of the great values in world soccer. Those numbers are well within reach of Europe’s top clubs. With Manchester United reportedly keen on acquiring him, Barcelona want to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Starting after the forthcoming transfer window the Catalan club will begin negotiations with his representatives. The resulting contract should yield him a higher salary, and provide Barcelona with further security of his services by way of a higher transfer clause.
His current contract ends in 2021, so expect him to be tied to the La Liga leaders for at least half a decade more.
