Benevento beat Manchester United's negative record

Benevento beat Manchester United's negative record

With a loss earlier today, Benevento have now suffered 13 straight Serie A losses to begin this season which is now a new negative record within Europe's top 5 leagues. Benevento were taking on Sassuolo today at home as Roberto De Zerbi was surely hoping for points.

Sassuolo's Alessandro Madtri had opened the score early in the second half as he put his club up by one. Even so, Benevento fought back and tied the game up at one as Armenteros scored assisted by Ciciretti. Moments after that, De Zerbi's team lost a man as Letizia was sent off for a second yellow card. Benevento help on tight but in the 92nd minute of play, Sassuolo were awarded a penalty kick. Dominico Berardi stepped up but incredibly failed to convert his penalty shot. This was surely enough to earn Benevento their first Serie A point of the season? Not so fast as Federico Peluso scored for Sassuolo in the 94th minute of play as Benevento lost a 13th straight Serie A game in 2017-18.

The previous negative record was held by Manchester United which goes all the way back to the 1930-31 EPL season. This is the worst ever start to a campaign in the history of the top 5 European leagues...
