Christian Pulisic took on Bayern Munich alone in Der Klassiker

Christian Pulisic was the only Borussia Dortmund player to avoid embarrassment during his side’s embarrassing display in Saturday’s lopsided Der Klassiker loss to Bayern Munich. Though the scoreline read 1-3 in favor of the visitors, it could have easily been reversed had some of the American’s teammates decided to show up for the match.

Goalkeeper Roman Burki drew the shortest straw for Dortmund as he had to protect the net behind a backline that was nonexistent throughout the match. However, even he did himself no favors with a gaff on the third goal which proved to be the dagger.

Though he didn’t score the host’s lone goal, Pulisic led his team with a 7.4 rating on the night from WhoScored. In the 88th minute, the diminutive American forward showed his strength as he outplayed two defenders in the corner, escaped, found Gonzalo Castro who fed Marc Bartra for an easy goal.

Watch him completely disrespect his elder, Arjen Robben, by nutmegging him in the lead up to the goal.
