Conte refuses to reveal whether Morata was his first choice over Lukaku

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has refused to reveal whether his new signing, forward Alvaro Morata, was his top target, following a lengthy saga where the Blues lost Romelu Lukaku to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

According to the Metro via SportsReview, the fiery Italian boss said that the two players were on the same level, and therefore he did not have a preference. The Blues manager said, ““It is not important to say [if his preference was to sign Lukaku].
“For me, Lukaku and Morata are at the same level, first choice for a great club like Chelsea and United.

“He made a good step forward since three years ago; now he is one of the best strikers in Europe. He has great potential, he can improve a lot.”

Morata was brought in from Real Madrid for a Chelsea record of £60m, and is looking to impose himself immediately on the Premier League, as the Pensioners look for a second consecutive league title.
