Could Juve spoil an Iniesta, Barca extension?

Could Juve spoil an Iniesta, Barca extension?

The Barcelona midfield of the future is a question the Catalan executives are pondering diligently. After losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the summer, their roster is very much in flux heading towards the January transfer window. One question they’re looking to answer, at least in the short term, is the future of captain Andres Iniesta.

The Spaniards’ current contract expires in June, and, until now, it seemed like the pair were headed for a separation. However, Barcelona president Bartomeu has engaged Iniesta’s representatives in renewal discussions. It seems that the Catalonian club is determined to bring him back, and the pair are on track for a renewal.

Despite the various reports of Barcelona’s intention to retain the stalwart, they appear willing to let Iniesta go to a Chinese or American club if they offer him a competitive contract. One place, however, that will likely be unable to land him is Juventus. The Spaniard is interested in them, but the feeling does not appear to be mutual as Moratta appears to have ruled out a Pirlo-like move to the Bianconeri.
