Danilo snubs Chelsea to join Manchester City in 27 million deal

Reports in Spain claim that Manchester City have won the race to sign Real Madrid right-back Danilo. Sports journal Marca writes that the 26-year-old has agreed personal terms on a move to the Etihad Stadium, agreeing a five-year deal to join Pep Guardiola’s side. City are also reported to have finalised an agreement with the Spanish giants for a fee of £27M.

Guardiola wanted another full-back after signing England defender Kyle Walker from Spurs for £55M last week. Having missed out on Dani Alves, who left Juventus to join Paris Saint-Germain, the Catalan tactician turned his attention to the Brazilian international. Only recently, a source close to the club told Sunsport that; “After what happened with Alves, the club have had to move on to other targets.

“Danilo is one of the names in the frame. Pep is a fan of him, and he isn’t an expensive option. Madrid are keen on Otamendi, so are pushing their man towards the Etihad, despite Chelsea’s firm interest. Danilo likes the idea of working under Pep, with plenty of game time being promised.”

The news will come as a blow to Chelsea boss Antonio Conte who had his eyes firmly fixed on Danilo, his ability to play on either flank makes him a much sought after commodity who now looks certain to be heading to Manchester.
