De Boer to use his Inter nightmare as stimulation in Crystal Palace job

Frank de Boer looks set for a return to club management at Crystal Palace and the Dutchman’s brother, Ronald, has told reporters that he will use his “painful” experience at Italian giants Inter as stimulation for his new job.

Having lasted just 85 days in charge of the Nerrazzurri, de Boer has taken time to reflect on the events what happened in Serie A before choosing his next job. As Sam Allardyce stepped down after keeping the Eagles in the Premier League, the former Dutch international looks certain to be named as his successor next week.

Speaking at The Belfry at an Icons golf tournament, Ronald de Boer explained that; “When you start any job you want to prove that you are good. But of course an experience like this gives you even more motivation to do well because you want to show Inter what you were capable of if they had just left him there”.

He continued; “They still felt he was on the right track but Inter wanted to change their philosophy from Catenaccio football towards a more international style of pressing football that Frank adores. But if you don’t give him time to get his ideas over it becomes really difficult. You can’t change a club’s entire philosophy and every player’s ideas in three or four weeks”.

“Frank never worked so hard in his life as he did in Milan. He was in at the club at 7.30am every morning and he didn’t leave until 7.30 at night! He learned to speak Italian within six weeks and was giving his press conferences in Italian. He was so committed”.

So to get the sack after 85 days was painful. And it’s why Frank will probably feel he wants to show them what they missed out on – but that doesn't’t guarantee you will be successful of course. He is a good manager – I’m not just saying it because he is my brother – he knows the game very well and he is addicted to football. He is demanding and he will do everything in his power to do well for Crystal Palace.”
