EXCLUSIVE: Agent reveals why Bacca joined Milan
Talking exclusively to calciomercato.com’s transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bacca’s agent, Sergio Barila, has explained why his client decided to join the Serie A giants last summer.
Did you expect Carlos Bacca to have such an impact on Serie A?
“Absolutely yes. I have never doubted Carlos’ goal-scoring capability. He is a terrific striker who has always scored in all the teams in which he's played. His commitment and personality are just remarkable.”
How diod you open talks with Milan last summer?
“First of all, I want to say that only a few clubs that could have convinced Bacca to leave Seville. Milan was among them. He was very happy in Spain, both from a professional and private perspective. As I said, only a few teams could convince him to leave Seville.”
Can you tell us which other teams wanted Bacca?
“It's no surprise that lot of European clubs pounced on him last summer, as he is among the best strikers out there. Yet Milan's offer excited Carlos so much that he wanted to join straight away.”
Are there any details that made a difference to the player’s decision? “Bacca chose Milan because he wanted to help the club go back where it deserves. Milan have amazing history and tradition: if they make you an offer, you can’t say no.”
Rumors in Italy suiggest that Bacca could be already set for a contract renewal. Is that true?
“You should ask someone from the club!"
Do you think that Bacca would be happy to extend his contract with Milan although he has only joined a few months ago?
“Yes, absolutely, Carlos is happy at the club and that’s everything that matters. Let’s wait until the end of the season and see what’s going on. Carlos wants to win trophies here.”
