    Exclusive: Juventus close to signing potential heir to Buffon

    Juventus are close to signing Italian goalkeeper Alex Meret, calciomercato.com’s Nicola Balice has exclusively learned. With Gianluigi Buffon who is set to retire in 2018, Meret could become one of the legendary goalkeeper’s potential successors, although the Old Lady is still considering some more players who could fill the boots of the 38-year-old goalkeeper once he hangs his boots. It come as no secret that Giuseppe Marotta would be ready to invest crazy money on AC Milan’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

    Meret, 19, is currently out on loan at Spal in Serie B and the Serie A table leaders have already found economic agreement with Udinese as well as with the promising goalkeeper who is set to end the season at Spal before joining Juventus at the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign.

    ​Juventus are set to acquire Meret for € 5 million plus add-ons.

    Once the new season begins, Juventus will decide whether to loan Meret out for one more season to get him some Serie A experience or keep him at the club to train for one entire year alongside Gianluigi Buffon.
