Exclusive: Milan excited by emerging Belgian midfielder

Calciomercato has exclusively learned that AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli will be on hand at the Belgium-Mexico friendly to view rising star Leander Dendoncker. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has already featured in four Red Devils matches, and is set to be part of their World Cup squad.

The Anderlecht product has seen his value skyrocket over the last year as a result of his strong and consistent work in the center of the pitch. In addition to the current role with his club, Dendoncker has the ability to move up the pitch into a more offensive role. Such versatility is of high value in the modern soccer world.

At 1.88m (6’2”) and 67kg (147lbs), the lanky Belgian certainly has the height to win aerial duels. Clubs, like Milan, will hope he can add some bulk to that frame as the physicality in other leagues will likely ratchet up with the competition.

Though he’s unlikely to start the match, Mirabelli will be keen to see him come on as a replacement against Mexico; one of the stronger, and more physical, soccer nations.
