EXCLUSIVE Romano: Juve step up Diawara chase, extend Barzagli deal until 2018

With Ilkay Gundogan and Edinson Cavani who are the hot names for Juventus’ summer transfer campaign, Giuseppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici are also working to keep at the J Stadium the key players they already have in the squad.

One of those is Andrea Barzagli. The Italian centre-back contract’s expires next June but CM.com’s transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano can exclusively reveal that the Old Lady have already found economic agreement with the former Palermo and Wolfsburg defender.

Barzagli, 35, will extend his stay at the J Stadium until 2018. Given his age, he is not expected to have any further bonus on his new contract, though he is going to keep the same salary he’s earning at the moment.

Milan and Fiorentina would have made an attempt to sign him as a free agent, but Barzagli wanted to wait for Marotta’s offer before hearing new ones.

The Old Lady is also planning to strengthen her midfield and Ilkay Gundogan is not the only player on her radars. Chelsea and Bayern Munich target Amadou Diawara, 18, played an amazing game against the Bianconeri this past Friday and despite he has almost found economic agreement to join Bayern Munich next season, Giuseppe Marotta hopes to steal him from under the Bavarian’s noses offering Bologna to keep the player also for next season and ‘booking’ him for the 2017-2018 campaign.

The player’s price-tag could represent the only problem in this negotiation. Diawara costs approximately € 10 million at the moment, but should he carry on delivering these kind of swashbuckling performances, those money will probably not be enough to buy the promising centre midfielder in one year time.
