EXCLUSIVE: Sebastian De Maio lined up as Philippe Mexes replacement

“Alex is fit and we are not going to buy another central defender in the current transfer campaign”, Adriano Galliani told the journalists ahead of today’s Milan training session.

Calciomercato.com, by the way, has exclusively learned that Milan had approached Genoa over Sebastian De Maio’s transfer before understanding that Alex’s injury was not too serious.

Sources revealed that Adriano Galliani had called both Genoa’s president Enrico Preziosi as well as the player’s entourage to sound out the 28-year-old’s availability, but negotiations have been put on hold after that it was revealed that Alex’s physical condition is not alarming.

De Maio’s transfer to AC Milan, by the way, is not collapsed yet. There is still little chance for the Frenchman to sign with the Rossoneri, as Philippe Mexes could be heading to Fiorentina.

The Tuscans are looking for a reliable central defender after that both Benfica and River Plate have rejected La Viola’s bids for Lisandro Lopez and Emanuel Mammana respectively.

Should the former Roma full-back join the Franchi in the next few days, De Maio would become a new Milan player, joining the Diavoli on loan for the remaining of the season with option to buy.
