Former Serie A player suspended for failed drug test

Former Serie A played Roman Eremenko has been suspended for two years after testing positive to cocaine, UEFA has announced.

The Finland International failed a drug test on the 14th of September 2016 when his side CSKA Moscow travelled to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen in a Champions’ League group stage tie.

Eremekno, 29, has been banned for two years and a preventive suspension was activated on the 6th of October 2016, which means Eremenko can return to action on the same date in 2018.

The CSKA Moscow midfielder had been playing for Udinese, Roma and Siena in Serie A between 2005 and 2008. He has 24 appearances and three assists in Serie A.

Eremenko had arrived in Italy in 2005 completing a € 300.000 move from Faro to Udinese. In summer 2009 he swapped the zebrette with Dynamo Kiev for € 5 million. The former Serie A midfielder has also played for Rubin Kazan.
