From Germany: Juventus scout Werder star, West Ham target

Juventus have been scouting Max Arnold, according to the Bild.

The German Under-21 international and Werder Bremen midfielder is considered as a long-term replacement for Sami Khedira, as well as another young face to add to the squad.

As we’ve been writing over the last few days, the Old Lady wants, well… to go for younger players, with veterans like Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner the wrong side of 30, if not 35.

Once considered the “New Ozil”, the 23-year-old Arnold has since moved back from attacking midfield (he managed 7 Buli goals for Werder in the 2013-2014 season) to a more box-to-box role, where he is shining. He has been linked with West Ham, too.

The U21 captain has already had a run-in with Italy, too: in last summer’s European Championship, he got angry when Italy’s players were attempting to recover the ball from the back of the German net after they had scored.

Having got into an alternaction with Gagliardini, Pellegrini and Bernardeschi, Arnold later declared: “All this shoving, this s**t is of no use to anyone. They [the Italians] were laying hands on everyone. But this is football: just like in life, what goes around comes around.”
