Gattuso uses Perišić as motivation for his AC Milan players

The AC Milan squad is in ‘ritiro’ this week with a view to preparing for Saturday evening’s clash at home to Atalanta. Only with a victory against La Dea (or a convincing performance) will the players be allowed to spend Christmas at home with their families. Coach Gennaro Gattuso was understandably livid after his side lost 3-0 at Hellas Verona on Sunday, and therefore called his men in for extra training.

According to Tuttosport, the Rossoneri boss is trying to ease the tension in the camp which was created by his decision. In addition to physical and tactical work, Rino is trying to knit the squad closer together as he feels it has not yet found its identity. Meanwhile, he is insisting that the players must perform with a greater sense of pride and desire in order to climb the table.

One way in which he has tried to do this is by using the famous image of Inter winger Ivan Perišić mocking the Diavolo after their 2-2 draw against winless Benevento. Gattuso hopes this can provoke a reaction among his charges. Sweat, cohesion and pride – these are the three watchwords Gattuso wants to reinvigorate his squad with.
