Genoa defender Izzo: 'I hope to play for Napoli one day'

Armando Izzo isn't just one of Serie A's highest-rated defenders. He's also a Neapolitan kid who wants to play for his hometown club.

"I began with nothing, but with enough hunger and determination you can go anywhere". the defender declared today at an event organized by Dreaming Scampia, a project dedicated to renewing inner-city sports facilities to help Neapolitan youngsters from disadvantaged areas.

The 24-year-old was present alongside Angeli Peruzzi and Fabio Cannavaro, and hasn't exactly hidden his desire to play for Aurelio De Laurentiis' club.

"I'm from Napoli, I'm happy of the team's progress this season. They deserve second place, and the city does, especially".

"I wanted to play for this club, but then they went another way. I hope to get there one day".

Izzo grew up in the Partenopei's youth system, but never turned out for Napoli in Serie A, eventually being sold to Avellino.

The 24-year-old also got to meet Marcello Lippi at the event, stating that "I spoke to him at length... he gave me some tips and complimented me. We're talking of a great coach, and a great man.

"I hope to play for Italy one day".
