Man United boss Mourinho set for showdown talks with Wayne Rooney

All time Manchester United and England top-scorer Wayne Rooney is set for showdown talks with Reds boss Jose Mourinho before the squad fly out for their pre-season tour in the USA, reports reputable local news outlet Manchester Evening News.

The Man United captain was dropped to the bench most of most last campaign, where the Red Devils won three trophies, including that of the Europa League – a result which means that the team will be playing Champions League football in the 2017/18 season.

31-year-old Rooney is due back at Carrington HQ before the team fly out to the States on Sunday, with the forward reportedly keen on wanting to stay at Old Trafford next season, but with more game-time.

But even with striker Zlatan Ibrahimović’s departure following a horrific long-term injury, Rooney might have to pit himself against an influx of fresh faces, with Man United linked with the likes of Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez of La Liga side Real Madrid.
