Juve & Manchester United in battle for Atletico Madrid defender

Juventus are looking to the future and a player that is firmly in the mirror is Atletico Madrid defender José Gimenez. The 21-year-old Uruguayan is coming of age under coach Diego Simeone and bianconeri bosses are planning to make a summer assault to try to secure his signature.

There is a problem however and that is because Manchester United are also believed to be planning a move of their own at the end of the current campaign as boss Jose Mourinho looks to bring new faces to his Old Trafford back-line. The player is believed to have a high buy-out clause in his existing contract in the Spanish capital, but that is unlikely to deter the two clubs from going head-to-head to try to get their man.

Gimenez was born in Toledo and grew up in the youth ranks at Toledo Juniors. He then moved to Danubio in 2012 before heading to Spain just 12 months later. He’s also now a firm fixture in the Uruguayan national team and has chalked up 21 appearances for his country. He was part of the squad who took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
