Latest: Italy Coach Ventura threatened to resign after first leg
According to the major outlet, the Italy Coach quarrelled with his players after the first leg of the Azzurri’s defeat to Sweden.
Losing that game 1-0 on the road, the four-time World Champions only managed a 0-0 draw in Milan to seal their fate and exclude them from their first World Cup since 1958.
Ventura had already threatened to leave after a poor performance in Sweden, after the players had suggested a different approach and tactical line-up. The former Torino and Bari Coach is alleged to have answered, “Go on then, you pick the team” before threatening to leave.
He recently had his deal renewed until 2020, but it looks like the Genoese native is going to get fired.
While this particular quarrel was settled by senior players, it looks like resentment may have simmered into the second game, when Lorenzo Insigne wasn’t even played.
