Liverpool warned over new double release clause of Napoli star

Napoli are hopeful that their left-back Faouzi Ghoulam will soon sign a new contract with them. The partenopei’s star will see his contract expire in 2018 and has yet to put pen to paper on an extension. The Algeria International and his agent Jorge Mendes want to include a release clause in the player’s new deal and that’s why negotiations have been put on hold.

According to Il Mattino, however, the Serie A giants should have found a solution that will make everyone happy.

Ghoulam has been offered a € 2.5 million-a-year deal until 2022, a huge pay rise compared to his current € 800.000-a-year deal.

As for the player’s release clause, Napoli are reported to be willing to add a double transfer fee in Ghoulam’s contract.

One would be set in the region of € 40 million and would only be valid for ‘top-clubs’, including Liverpool and Juventus who, at the moment, are the most interested clubs in signing him. A second release clause should be set to € 27 million and that would only be valid for ‘smaller clubs’.

Napoli hope the player will agree to sign a new deal and expect to announce Ghoulam’s extension during the International break.
