Man City see off Liverpool and Chelsea to land £60 million Dutch star

According to The Mirror, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is about to loosen the purse strings once again to pip both Liverpool and Chelsea to Dutch international defender Virgil van Dijk. The journal states that the 25-year-old has secured a move to The Etihad in a deal believed to be worth £60M.

The Southampton player’s name has been one of the most talked about on the summer transfer window with Saints boss Ralph Krueger stating that he was in no hurry to sell one of his star names and that he would hold out for the best price possible. Recent reports claim that Liverpool had already had a £40M offer rejected but this latest advance from City looks to have finally secured his departure from St Mary’s.

Southampton bought van Dijk from Celtic for just £11.5M back in 2015 but injuries have curtailed his career on the south-coast where he has made just 55 appearances for the club. Should the deal be completed, it will take Guardiola’s summer spending to almost £140M after the captures of Bernardo Silva and Ederson.
