Milan sweat over injury to star defender before Derby

Without the players called by their respective national teams, Milan continues to prepare for the upcoming Derby della Madonnina on Sunday, October 15. The matchup with Inter Milan is an immensely important one; decisive for the Rossoneri team and, above all, for manager Vincenzo Montella, who risks sacking should his side fail to claim three points. Now, the challenge just got even greater with Mateo Musacchio unlikely to be available.

Per the club, the defender did not participate in training with a muscular injury. Should he be unable to suit up next Sunday, it’s likely Christian Zapata will take his spot alongside Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli at the San Siro.

Musacchio joins a growing list of Rossoneri injuries. Giacomo Bonaventura, Nikola Kalinic, Luca Antonelli, and Riccardo Montolivo are all dealing with various injuries and illnesses. Bonaventura is suffering from the flu while Antonelli suffered a calf injury. Kalinic, however, appears confident in his potential availability for the Derby.
