Morata: 'I want to stay at Juventus'
“I’m not thinking about any other clubs,” Alvaro Morata told La Gazzetta dello Sport in an extended interview.
“It’s true that a lot of things don’t depend on me, but I’m happy at Juventus and don’t intend to move.
“I’ve had no contacts with Real.
“The only thing I’m interested in is playing as much as possible for Juve and winning titles, all the talk on the side isn’t my problem”.
Morata has struggled for goals this season, being a part of Max Allegri’s tinkering in attack. The Spanish international has only scored one Serie A goal, though he’s netted twice in Europe, one of them a screamer against Manchester City in a 2-1 Juventus win at the Etihad.
There has been some speculation recently, with the former Real Madrid youth telling Spanish Radio that he was being played “out of position”.
Fabrizio Romano has exclusively reported for cm.com that Real Madrid already have a €4 million salary read for Morata if they're able to excercise their buy-back clause (also known as Recompra) in his current contract with Juventus. Romano has also revealed that it'd be "difficult" for Juventus to keep their striker, who netted in both Champions League semifinals last season to help the Old Lady overcome Real Madrid.
Morata has, however, tried to soothe things by claiming he's been misinterpreted.
“I never said that I don’t like playing on the left, just that it’s difficult to score from there. I’m happy every time I get to play.
Morata also revealed some frankly fascinating things about his approach to goal scoring.
“My objective is to win the title, not top the scorers’ table. What’s the point in scoring 25 goals and not winning anything? I’m calm and at peace. It’s natural that strikers are criticised when they don’t score.
“If somebody were to offer me the chance to go goal-less but win Serie A, I’d sign on the dotted line”.
The 23–year-old also spoke about his performances so far this season.
“I know I have to do better, I haven’t been performing to the levels I have previously been used to. I’m 23, I can keep improving”.
With the Bianconeri facing rivals Milan soon, Morata had something to say about the unpredictable nature of the tie, in which he scored last year in Turin, when Juve won 3-1.
“Juve – Milan is the kind of game where the two teams’ form doesn’t matter. History tells us that it’s one of Italy’s biggest derbies, Milan will give it their all so their recent performances are only so important”.
