Giampiero Ventura has now been officially sacked as coach of the italian national team after failing to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958. The Italian FA, FIGC, released the following statement to that effect moments ago.

"During the meeting convened by FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio where Gravina, Nicchi, Sibilia, Tommasi and Ulivieri were present and was related to the failed qualification to the World Cup in Russia 2018.
The first point of order was Tavecchio communicating about the technical staff of the national team and from now on Gian Piero Ventura is no longer the head coach of the national team."

No replacement has been named as of yet and a permanent replacement will be named at a later date with former Milan and Bayern munich coach Carlo Ancelotti as well as current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Juventus coach Max Allegri being named as favorites to take over.
