Paper Talk: Buffon warns Juventus, former Prem duo linked with Inter job

Juventus were held to 1-1 draw by Ligue1 side Lyon in Champions League on Wednesday night, leaving the Old Lady two points behind table leaders Sevilla and although their qualification is not at risk, there are now fewer chances to qualify as group winners.

According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gianluigi Buffon warned his teammates before the Lyon clash, exactly minutes after the final whistle of the previous Serie A game against Napoli.

Despite the Old Lady’s win, Buffon reportedly warned his teammates saying: “Serie A clubs step aside, European ones don’t. We have to improve or we are going nowhere, especially in Champions League.”

Inter are another Serie A club that failed to impress in the mid-week action losing 2-1 at Southampton and putting their future in the competition into serious doubt. Interim boss Stefano Vecchi was in charge of the nerazzurri yesterday night, but the Serie A side will be looking for a new manager who can coach the team until the end of the season.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Pioli is the favourite candidate for the Inter job, although former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink is also a credible option to replace axed Frank De Boer. Hiddink is backed by Kia agent Joorabchian who is known to be a trusted external advisor of the club.

Former Udinese and Swansea coach Francesco Guidolin is also being linked with the job, but Pioli, Hiddink and Marcelino are stronger candidates than the former Swans’ boss.
