Paper Talk: De Boer to be sacked as Inter boss. Higuain not enough to win Champions League claims Buffon
De Boer was appointed as Inter boss in August, after the club’s sudden decision to replace Roberto Mancini. The former Ajax boss has lost seven of Inter’s opening 14 games of the season and the nerazzurri that are now eight points behind a Champions League spot, which is Inter’s main target this season.
A list of potential replacements for De Boer has been already released by Italian media. Stefano Pioli, Francesco Guidolin, Laurent Blanc or Leonardo could be hired as interim boss as Inter hope to seal Atletico Madrid gaffer Diego Pablo Simeone once the season ends.
Meantime, Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has released an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport,claiming that Juventus need to improve if they want to win the Champions League this season.
“We have to improve in terms of quality. We are happy with our results so far, but we can’t be satisfied because it’s October and there are seven months before the season ends. Even at 70, one must always try to improve. Trying to improve is an ambition that each one of us has to cultivate.”
“Higuain’s arrival is important because makes our team stronger, but that is enough if we just only want to win the Serie A title again. If we want to have better results in Europe, then we need to improve as a team, that’s what it takes to live up to the level of clubs like Barcelona or Bayern Munich.”
“That’s what everybody thinks at the club, from the president, to the boss to us footballers. Allegri is trying out many formations and he’s right because there are many players out with injuries. Despite that, however, we have to find the right solutions when we play games. I believe in balance and I believe in the team’s solidity. Allegri is doing a great job, but sometimes we are still struggling to put his ideas into practice.”
