Real Madrid star: I was right to leave Bayern to come here

Toni Kroos has “no doubt” that joining Real Madrid was the right move, claiming that he was just one star player at Bayern, but that he got more attention at the Santiago Bernbaeu.

The German cost the Merengues a bargain €25 million back in 2014, but has gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

“I have no doubt that joining Real Madrid was the right move,” Kroos told Marca.

“Going abroad to a top club is one more step in your development and at the time Carlo Ancelotti was very keen to bring me in.”

The 27-year-old, who has scored six Liga goals but who is respected for his incredible passing range and all-round approach, has since won two Champions League trophies with the Chamartin side.

“At Bayern I was seen as a good player but was one of many strong players who Bayern had and in Madrid you get even more attention.”

The German international was also full of praise for Coach Zinedine Zidane, despite the difficult start that the Madrid side has endured this season. Real are already seven points short of Barcelona, despite only playing seven games so far.

“Zidane gave me a lot of confidence right from the start and in his two seasons in charge he has played me in almost every match, particularly the big games.

“I have a strong relationship with him and for a player to have that with a Coach is really important in terms of performance.”
