Real Madrid want to pay release clause for Spain keeper in January

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa could reportedly end up joining Real Madrid this January, instead of waiting for the next summer to join the Santiago Bernabeu based club.

The Spaniard hasn’t renewed his contract with the Basque based club and his current deal expires next summer, which would allow Real Madrid to sign him for free.

Kepa currently has a release clause of about  €20 million in his contract and the Los Blancos could trigger it if the Bilbao keeper decides to move on from his club in winter instead of waiting to join Zinedine Zidane’s men at the end of the season.

More so, Kepa is open to signing any deal after the 1st of January, if he doesn’t extent his contract at Bilbao. Either way, he could well end up joining Real Madrid next summer for free.

The frequent injury problems that Keylor Navas faces and Kepa’s own situation at Bilbao could force him into moving in January, as he looks to earn a spot in the World Cup in Russia.
