Roma star subject of €25 million Liverpool swoop in January

Liverpool have been heavily criticised for their defensive issues, and they could reportedly target Roma defender Emerson Palmieri as a solution.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded 16 goals in just nine Premier League games so far this season, 12 more than leaders Manchester City, with the 4-1 loss at Tottenham last weekend another setback for the Reds.

As a result, they could act in January to address the problem, and according to Nicolo Schira, Palmieri is said to be a €25 million target as Alberto Moreno has failed to entirely convince defensively in the left-back role since moving to England.

The 23-year-old joined Roma in 2015, and made 36 appearances in all competitions last season as he was a key figure under former boss Luciano Spalletti.

However, he has yet to make a single appearance this campaign after suffering cruciate ligament damage in May and is continuing his rehabilitation.

Liverpool are seemingly confident that he’ll make a full recovery though, with a €25 million bid being prepared for January, along with a contract which will run until 2022.
