Sampdoria want Stoke City man to replace Arsenal-bound Torreira

Sampdoria are already looking to replace Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguayan international has confirmed that he will leave the Genoan side to join Arsenal. A tackling machine and an all-round midfielder, he claimed that “this is a good opportunity and I don't want to waste it."

Coach Marco Giampaolo is already fishing around for a replacement, president Massimo Ferrero even going as far as to say that “we are looking for three or four possible replacements: one is Spanish, one is Belgian, one Croatian and one Italian.”

Stoke City man Imbula could be the Franco-Belgian connection. Born near Brussels, he moved to France when he was young. While he has struggled in the Premier League despite his €24 million price tag, he has been better with Toulouse.

Though he only netted once last season, he was one of the only players not to disappoint as the Purple side went down.

Imbula was a previous target of both Milan and Inter, but the idea of signing more players from the Jorge Mendes orbit wasn’t seen as an attractive prospect.
