Serie A does not have too many foreigners, and Inter aren't the problem

Inter have always been accused of being, well, too international.

Criticized in recent years for not fielding enough Italians, it has been two seasons now that the Nerazzurri are regularly fielding four Azzurri: Antonio Candreva, Roberto Gagliardini, Eder and Danilo D’Ambrosio.

And one can’t point the finger when it comes to putting “too few” in their squad, it emerges that they have fifteen. That’s more than mega-bucks Milan, who have 14 like Crotone. Chievo, for their part, have 12, still more than Benevento and Verona (10), Cagliari and Spal (6), or even plucky minnows Sassuolo (4).

At a time when some less-than-enlightened editorials are blaming the influx of foreign players into Serie A for the national team’s failings, it is also worth pointing out that there are 296 foreign players out of 555 in Serie A. That’s 53%, just like the Bundesliga.

That’s more than La Liga (204 out of 477, 43%) and Ligue 1 (268 out of 540, 49%), but less than the Premier League (351 out of 522, 67%).

How can Inter really the problem, then?
