Transfer news: President claims Inter loanee ‘wants to stay’

Gabriel Barbosa, AKA Gabigol, has been an Inter Milan player for over 2 years, yet playing just 10 times for the Nerazzurri, scoring just one goal in that time. Barbosa has spent loan spells out at Benfica and former club Santos, the latter where he is currently.

Santos president, Jose Carlos Peres, spoke to BandSports about Gabigol, signifying both the intentions of the Brazilian club and the player – leaving the ball proverbially in Inter’s court.

“We are talking to his representatives and Inter. At Santos, we are doing our best to hold on to him for another season. He’s a young boy, growing up in our nursery, is a gunner, has an important value and the club recognises him; he wants to stay.”

Gabigol is currently the top scorer in the Brazilian Serie A, finding the net 17 times for the Vila Belmiro based club.
