Ventura: ‘Sweden win unfair’

Italy boss Giampiero Ventura talked to Rai seconds after the azzurri’s 1-0 defeat at the Friends Arena against Sweden, a result that puts Italy’s World Cup qualification into serious trouble. Despite a very poor performance Ventura thinks Italy played a good game, here’s what he had to say after the final whistle.

“I think the result is unfair”, Ventura said.

“We did create them troubles and I think a draw should have been the minimum for us. We didn’t allow them to create many goal chances, we hit the post once, they shot once on target and they scored one goal.”

Italy and Sweden will play the return leg at the San Siro on Monday. “I hope the referee will allow us to do the same they did tonight. They played a rough game, we should have done the same. Now we must focus on the second game, we must focus on the result and not on the performance. Tonight’s result is unfair.”
