From Draxer to Ricardo Rodriguez: Volkswagen’s crisis will cause Wolfsburg’s stars exit

Volkswagen’s emission crisis could force most of Wolfsburg’s star leave the Bundesliga giants in the near future, Kicker reports. The German multinational automotive manufacturing company has already paid a very high price (around € 16.5 billion in compensation) and more bad news are to come as the company has planned to sack almost 30.000 employees by 2020.

The German company inject in Wolfsburg’s finances over € 100 million a year, but the future is not going to be as rosy as that. Still according to the Kicker, the Bundesliga giants are obviously going to be highly affected by Volkswagen’s crisis, so much so they are not planning to buy big names anymore in the future and could decide to build their future team using products of their academy only.

The German side invested € 47 million in new recruits last summer, but those figures are not going to be matched in the following transfer windows and calciomercato.com has shortlisted all the players that might become available in the market following the economic crisis of the German club.

Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez is definitely one of the most wanted players in his position around Europe. He’s young and has lot of International experience already. Inter, Milan and Arsenal are interested in signing him.

Newcomer Mario Gomez could also be added to Wolfsburg’s list of departures. The German striker joined the club last summer for € 10 million but could only manage three league goals so far this season. Daniel Caligiuri is a long time target of Lazio, whilst Luiz Gustavo had been heavily linked with moves to either Juventus or Inter in the past. Both Serie A clubs could knock Wolfsburg’s door now.

Juventus are also monitoring the situation of Julian Draxler even Arsenal are open to invest big money on the German winger especially if Alexis Sanchez does not sign a new contract with the Gunners.

Jeffrey Bruma, in the end, is a profile considered by Inter for defence reinforcement. The former PSV centre-back was in contact with the Serie A giants last summer but snubbed a move to the Meazza outfit to join Wolfsburg.
