Chelsea transfer update: Why Bonucci's move to Milan spells bad news for Conte

It’s not just Juventus fans that could be left licking their wounds after Leonardo Bonucci’s sensational move to AC Milan on Friday. The Italian international’s departure from Turin could also have a huge effect on Premier League champions Chelsea’s summer transfer plans.

Having offloaded Bonucci for €42M to one of their bitter Serie A rivals, Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has stated that no more big name stars will be leaving the Allianz Stadium this summer. This will not be music to the ears of former boss Antonio Conte who has his heart set on the Bianconeri full-back Alex Sandro. The 26-year-old Brazilian international was top of Conte’s wish-list but both Sky Sport and Tuttosport claim that the Blues have had a €70M offer rejected by the Old Lady.

With Chelsea still not having secured a striker to replace the departing Diego Costa, fans are growing anxious to see new big name arrivals ahead of the big kick-off which takes place in less than a months’ time. Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko’s move to West London should be completed today but it’s the full-back position where Conte wants reinforcements. Sandro’s profile fits the Italians tactics perfectly but after Bonucci’s shock departure, it’s now unlikely that we will see him in a Chelsea shirt next season.
