Zaza explains West Ham flop

Former West Ham striker Simone Zaza has explained why he did fail to deliver convincing performances with the Hammers.

The Italian joined West Ham on loan with option to buy in summer 2016 but the Premier League side decided to release him after only six months since his arrival.

“I was too sad for the penalty I missed against Germany [in the 2016 World Cup]. I didn’t ask to take that penalty and I was unable to react afterwards. I’ve never taken lot of penalties in my career but I used to score most of them during Italy trainings so I decided to take it when I was asked. After I missed everything was negative, that we the worse part of my career.”

“My girlfriend and my family have helped me to overcome that bad period and I can only hep them.”

“I’d like to play for Italy again but if I haven’t receive a call-up yet it means I still don’t deserve it. This is my objective. I am not in contact with [Italy boss] Ventura. Why should I?”
