AC Milan should regret selling Stephan El Shaarawy to AS Roma

Stephan El Shaarawy claimed the spotlight as AS Roma beat Empoli 3-1 on Saturday evening thanks to a brace scored by the former AC Milan star.

The Pharaoh, 23, has already netted four goals since he joined the Olimpico from Milan on loan with option to buy this past January. He had previously spent six months on loan at AS Monaco failing to score one single goal in the French league and his spell at the Stade Luis II was so disappointing that the Ligue 1 side had to cut short his loan.

“I am very happy for him”, Adriano Galliani told journalists ahead of Milan’s Serie A showdown against Torino. The Rossoneri CEO does not regret letting him leave, but looking at Milan’s squad he probably should, as his decision of selling the talented winger has strengthen one of the Rossoneri direct rivals in the Champions League race.

Galliani aimed to cash in € 13 million from the player’s sale, though El Sha could have been very useful also for Sinisa Mihajlovic as the Serbian manager is lacking of quality players down both flanks.

El Shaarawy, by the way, needed a different environment to come back to his old standards and he considered his former club not the right place to develop.

AS Roma will make his move permanent for a fee of € 13 million next summer after paying € 1.4 million for the player’s six months loan.

The product of Genoa academy will probably make it for EURO 2016 too. Antonio Conte trusts him so much he even called El Sha when the player was not a regular starter at AS Monaco. Four goals in five games with Roma can only boost his chances of being part of Italy senior national team next summer.
