Agresti: the top 10 Argentine forwards in Italy

Gonzalo Higuain vs Paulo Dybala: two Argentines are the stars of the duel for the scudetto. One of them is Napoli leader, the other one is Juventus’ jewel. Two different kind of players, from both a physical and technical point of view, in fact they could make a fantastic duo if they played together.

Higuain and Dybala are part of that “Argentine colony” that has done so well in the Serie A, especially for what concerns the forwards. Of course, nothing against Ronaldo and all the great Brazilian strikers. We have tried to make a top 10 chart of the Argentine attackers arrived since 1980. Both Dybala and Higuain are part of it, they are in good position and they can even improve, but at one condition: the first place is unreachable.

1° Maradona It’s probably wrong to put him in the first place; in general it’s wrong to put him in this or any other chart: he’s hors catégorie, like certain mountains of the Tour de France

2° Batistuta The top scorer in the history of the Argentine national team and of Fiorentina. He has won the scudetto with Roma. Incredibly powerful, an unstoppable tank.

3° Higuain Physical strenght and good tecnic (maybe even better than Batistuta) Maybe today’s best center forward in the world. 21 goals in 21 games: terrific!

4° Crespo Elegant and skilled, he has left his mark at Parma and Lazio, but even at Inter and AC Milan he has done well

5° Tevez Two phenomenal seasons at Juve, with two scudettos, and a Champions League final. He’s known for his temper, we have just seen his immense talent

6° Milito The classic striker. Decisive in the fantastic 2009/2010 season. With Mourinho on the bench, he has won everything. This put him in such a good position, even though behind him there are some more skilled forwards

7° Dybala He has become the symbol of a top team as soon as he has joined it. We may be wrong, but we have the sensation that we are talking about a veritable phenomenon.

8° Balbo Tons of goal for Udinese and AS Roma. A very talented player, as in the 1994 World Cup he played almost as a midfielder, behind Maradona, Caniggia and Batistuta.

9° Diaz Wherever he has played, he has left his mark: Avellino, Fiorentina, Inter (with whom he won the scudetto).A great shot to the goal and the striker’s instinct

10° Bertoni An extremely talented winger, he has done well for Fiorentina and Napoli. World Champion in 1978, with a goal in the final against Holland
