Arsenal look to Premier League star after unsuccessful French raid

Following Arsenal’s rejected bids for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, the Gunners will look on home soil for transfers, in order to conjure up a decent squad that can compete for a Premier League title next season.

Riyad Mahrez won the title with Leicester City in 2016, providing 17 goals in 37 appearances for the club, and manager Arsene Wenger, it is reported, feels the tricky Moroccan winger would be a good addition for his North London side.

The Daily Express are suggesting that the window so far has frustrated Wenger. He has his first choice targets abroad but thinks that Mahrez would be a sure-fire bet in terms of Premier League ability.

The Gunners were in the hunt for the 26-year-old last summer but were put off by the £50m price tag that the Foxes put on.

The fee now, though, may be lowered or even met, as Arsenal will have funds through the possible transfers of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool.
