Arsenal 'prepare improved bid' for Sporting midfielder, Newcastle also keen
The Portugal international has been under the watchful eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Toon Army manager Rafa Benitez for some time, but Portuguese publication Record are suggesting that it is the North London side who are preparing to launch an improved 30m euro bid for the holding-midfielder, with the player reportedly in favour of a switch to the Emirates over St James’ Park.
Carvalho is under contract to Lisbon until 2020 and has a release clause set at a sizeable 45m euros – but any offer from either side could see the player push through a move from his club.
In Newcastle, such a move could settle nerves for some supporters, with a record-breaking figure being a huge statement of intent by the club, as they look to solidify themselves in the Premier League next season, without the hassle of a relegation battle.
