Arsenal update: £50m too much for Leicester star

Arsenal believe that £50 million is far too much to spend on Riyad Mahrez, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners are set to make another splash in the transfer window, after spending nearly £50m for Alexandre Lacazette.

Instrumental in helping Leicester City win the Premier League title two seasons ago, the Algerian star struggled during the last campaign.

Arsenal believed that £50m is too much for a 26-year-old coming off a reasonable year, which is why they prefer Thomas Lemar.

Then again, Monaco have set the latter’s price at around £80m, a huge price for someone who scored 14 goals from midfield in France last season.

Mahrez himself has let it be known that he wants to play Champions League football, and doesn’t want to remain in Leicester.

Arsenal are looking for potential back-up in case Alexis Sanchez were to leave, with the Chilean seen as being close to Manchester City. Even if he were to stay, he only had a year left on his deal, meaning Arsenal would look for a long-term substitute.
