Aubameyang’s Champions League exclusion gives potential bidders hope

Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was excluded from the Bundesliga giants’ squad in yesterday’s Champions League clash against Sporting CP.

The Gabonese striker had been regularly called for the game, but the Germans’ boss Thomas Tuchel suddenly decided to exclude the product of AC Milan academy from the squad, minutes before the beginning of the game.

Aubameyang watched from the stands his teammates’ 1-0 win over the Portuguese side and his exclusion has boosted hopes of potential bidders.

Touchel failed to go into further details to explain his decision yesterday night. There are many reasons why Aubameyang could have been punished by his boss.

Reports in Germany claim that Aubameyang had an argument with his manager just before the kick-off, but other rumours from around Europe suggest that the 27-year-old hit-man could have been punished for making a call during the last technical meeting before the game or due to an unauthorized day off he took to meet his friends in Italy last week.

What’s for sure is that the best European clubs are chasing him. Serie A side tried to sign him twice in the past, but neither Rafa Benitez nor Maurizio Sarri gave the green light to splash big cash on the Gabonese striker.

Manchester City and Real Madrid, on the other hand, would welcome Aubameyang with open arms, though the Merengues are facing a two-window transfer ban.

The striker’s exclusion is giving all potential bidders hope, though Borussia Dortmund could ask for more than € 70 million for the striker whose contract with the German side expires in 2020.
