Barca rival Man United for star full-backs

Barca rival Man United for star full-backs

Barcelona have been linked to two star full-backs.

With the Blaugrana’s defence ageing and Aleix Vidal recovering from a serious injury, the Liga pretenders have five names on their list, including those of Joshua Kimmich (Bayern) and Nelson Semedo (Benfica). They have both found themselves on Manchester United’s radar.

Though Sergi Roberto is considered to be promising, Marca confirm, the Catalans want more cover at the position. The other targets are Joao Cancelo (Valencia CF), Djibril Sidibé (AS Monaco) and Álvaro Odriozola (Real Sociedad).

The situation for Kimmich is a tough one: a rising star under Pep Guardiola and a constant fixture in Germany’s 2016 squad, the 22-year-old has found himself being benched by Carlo Ancelotti.

This was enough to prompt Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to release an official statement  claiming that there was “no truth” in his rumoured agreement with Manchester United.

“"The report is simply false. There is no truth in this story. Joshua has a contract with Bayern until 2020 and will definitely still play for Bayern next season." The statement went on to read that the club would be taking legal action against the publication.

Kimmich has made it clear that he isn’t happy, saying recently that: "I’m not satisfied with it and I want to change it. The coach knows I can play as a number six and at right back, also in the centre of defence. From that he has many options to use me."

Semedo was linked to the Old Trafford side, but Victor Lindelof’s signing seems to have made him less of a priority, especially with his cost rising to £44 million.
