Barcelona step up their quest for highly-rated Colombian youngster

Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona have stepped up their interest in highly-rated Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez. After reports surfaced over the weekend that the 22-year-old Colombian would be open to a move to the Camp Nou, it’s now understood that incoming coach Ernesto Valverde has given the green-light for club officials to try to beat off competition from both Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the player’s signature.

Sanchez is currently under contract at the Johan Cruyff ArenA until 2021 having grown up in the youth ranks at Atletico Nacional. His impressive displays this season both domestically and in the Europa League, has led to his name being linked with a host of top European sides.

Barcelona are looking to overhaul their back-line this summer and having already targeted a possible return for Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin, it seems as though Sanchez could be the heir apparent to the ageing Javier Mascherano.
