Barcelona set their sights on two highly-rated young defenders

New Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is on the hunt for new central defenders. Having just strengthened his back-line with the arrival of full-back Nelson Semedo, the Spanish tactician is now concentrating on the centre of his defence.

One of the names that has been continually linked with a move to the Camp Nou is Ajax star Davinson Sanchez. The 21-year-old Colombian has been on the Blaugrana’s radar over the past 12 months with former coach Luis Enrique a huge admirer of the player. Now his successor is also monitoring the situation and why he does, he also has his eye on one of Spain’s most promising youngsters.

According to Don Balon, 20-year-old Jorge Mere is the player Valverde wants to bring to Catalonia. The youngster has just made the switch from Sporting Gijon to Malaga but his future looks set to be with one of Europe’s heavyweight clubs. The portal suggests that Barca may even be prepared to secure the players signature and leave him in place at his current employer next season.
