Breaking: Cassano unretires, 'I had a moment of weakness'

Antonio Cassano has gone back on his decision to retire, mere hours after surprisingly announcing that he was leaving football forever.

The attacker, a former Inter, Roma and AC Milan star, claimed that he had “a moment of weakness” earlier today as he announced his departure.

It’s not the first time that the former Parma man - who has still scored 140 goals in club football throughout his career - has had trouble in club football, whether it was his tiff with Francesco Totti at Roma, his impromptu impersonation of Coach Fabio Capello at Real Madrid, or his screaming match with Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone.

“I am sorry, I got emotional when I saw my family, and so did the director [Fusco]”, he continued, confirming that he would continue to play for Verona, who he joined this summer.

Cassano, who turned 35 last week, was previously on Sampdoria’s books, but was considered surplus to demands, and kept off the squad for half a season as the Blucerchiati tried to get rid of him.

“I want to continue this challenge, and I believe 100% that I will be successful.

“My family came up during the day, Setti [Verona’s president] and Fusco [the sporting director] saw me in difficult and immediately had my wife and children come visit me”.

“It was a gut call, it could have been a really f*****g stupid thing to do

“I want a last miracle in my career”.
