Breaking: Roberto Mancini set to become new Zenit boss

Former Man City and Inter manager Roberto Mancini is going to be appointed as Zenit St. Petersburg’s new boss, according to various sources in Italy.

The Italian, who was sacked by Inter in August 2016, just two weeks before the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign, had been linked with several clubs since: from West Ham to AC Milan to AS Roma. Mancini has recently admitted that he also held talks with the English FA to replace Sam Allardyce in Semptember.

Mancini has just had an official meeting with Gazprom’s chairman Aleksey Miller. Gazprom is Zenit’s St. Petersburg main sponsor and they have a big influence in the club’s decisions.

Mancini met representatives of Zenit yesterday.

An official announcement is expected to be released soon. Roberto Mancini is going to succeed former Inter boss Mircea Lucescu who coached Zenits St. Petersburg during the 2016/17 campaign. A new chapter of Mancini’s managerial career is about to begin.
