Following in Gigi's foostepts: Donnarumma will be Italy's youngest-ever Under-21 international

What a year it's been for Gianluigi Donnarumma. AC Milan's teen sensation. Twelve months ago, he was playing for Cristian Brocchi's Milan youth team at the Viareggio tournament. Now, he can make Italian football history by becoming the youngest player (at 17 years and 28 days old) to represent Italy's Under-21 Italy side, when the Azzurrini face off against Ireland in Waterford.

So far, Donnarumma has played for the Azzurri Under 15 and 16 teams, even participating in the Under-17 European Championships with Bruno Tedino's side. It may sound hard to believe now, but he was behind both Virtus Lanciano goalkeeper Alessio Cragno and his colleague at Como, Simone Scuffet (ok, not so hard to believe for the latter).

The young Milanese shotstopper would be replacing Federico Bonazzoli, the former Inter youth who is owned by Sampdoria but is also on loan to Virtus Lanciano. He was 17 years, 5 months and 27 days old when Di Biagio handed him the keys to the midfield.

Come to think of it, another goalkeeper emerged in a similar stunning manner, breaking his Under-21 duck back in 1997 and doing so in the (georgraphic) British Isles, namely against England.

He was 17 years, 10 months and 22 days old, and he made a horrific blunder to allow Norwich City's Darren Eadier to score.

    His name? Gianluigi Buffon.
